IVLE 8 Launch

Category : NUS

CIT sent us a note about downloading and backuping up any material from the old IVLE that we might want to migrate over.

'The Centre for Instructional Technology is about to launch the latest version of the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment - IVLE 8, the first major upgrade since 2003. IVLE 7 will be sut down permanently by Monday, 31 Dec 2007.'

"In order to enable the introduction of new features and to ensure scalability, CIT has had to move to Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 with ASP.NET Version 2.0 - an entirely different platform. Additionally, the database structure has been totally revamped so as to ensure extensibility, system stability and data integrity."

I have little so far and upload each year so shrugged my shoulders. But the interesting thing was this:

New Features & Upgrades in IVLE 8

  • Workspace features - You can change the workspace theme as well as choose various workspace components. Drop-down menus on the toolbar and navigation bar allow faster access to frequently used tools.
  • Expanded Course management - You can now create sub-modules within a module. This caters for modules with different lecturers.
  • Enhanced Workbin - The Workbin is accessible via Windows Explorer view. Workbin storage capacity has been increased.
  • Integrated web services - IVLE is now integrated with webcasts, Plagiarism Prevention and NUS Libraries.
  • Community Collaboration - Mobile Blogs, My Community (Microsoft SharePoint)

"A more comprehensive list of upgraded features can be found in the latest issue of CIT’s newsletter, IDEAS.
