Via my technocrati rss alert for the word "mangrove", I stumbled onto this morsel at the Guiness Book of World Records: Most Deaths Caused By Crocodiles - 19 Feb 1045: 'An Imperial Japanese Army unit guarding a stronghold on the Burmese island of Ramree was outflanked by a British naval force. Forced to cross 16 km of mangrove swamps, the swamps were home to thousands of large saltwater crocodiles. Only 20 of the 1,000 Japanese soldiers survived.'
