Cycling in Ubin photos

Category : Singapore Naturalist

John Larkin has put up the 2001 "Journey to the West" Ubin biking photos, I see [my photos here]. I remember him coping well amongst the much fitter crowd. It was technique and the experience that his childhood had afforded him.

I mentioned as much during the debrief to the Pedal Ubin group I took to the east last Saturday. Most of that young bunch was feeling a little tired after their exploration of the eastern part of Ubin, so I mentioned John when I told them how it'd get better and stay with them. If they kept at it a little.

Not sure they believed me but November is proof. She is such a wobbly cyclist but there she was, trundling along at a slow and steady speed. Its why there are no photos of us actually cycling; scenery sure, other guides talking yes, but none of us actually cycling. Reason? She knows better than to take a hand off the handle bar. She's a fine example of how to work around limitations and tackle the slopes gradually, and as far as possible. She tackled some tough spots quietly and participants never knew!

Links to that ride (photo album, blog posts) at Habitatnews.

I asked November to blog about the ride from a cycling perspective to reveal more but she's been too busy guiding on the Sentosa shoreline these past few days...she explained as much when she popped in today to return my raggedly Chek Jawa book *howl*
