Talks on marine conservation begin...without me!

Category : Singapore Naturalist

As part of International Coastal Cleanup Singapore I offered talks to schools, so that students are clued in about the ecosystem they are helping to protect.

This year, a crew has assembled to add their hearts, hands and voices to the effort. After a short briefing in the department's conference room on Monday, they left armed with a CD off various versions of last minute presentations - all put together hours before the various gigs I had done. But it was okay for starters and they were pronounced graduated!

Some oversight in allocations had a school ready and willing for a talk so one of them, Bryan, got thrown in the deep end and got his feet wet just yesterday!

Bryan reported, "The talk at Christ Church went well, the kids were staring in awe at the amount of litter that can be found, they were disgusted yet perked up at all the mud scenes in the mangrove and lastly, they were fascinated at the exotic and unique widelife that can be found in the mangrove and beaches... Ya, i think they got the message... There is wildlife, must protect it, help by clearing trash, consolidating data and make this world a better place to live in..."

All done while I slaved away at my terminal in campus, plotting and planning as I seem to have to do more of these days. This is certainly encouraging news! Maybe I'll get to begin work on my PhD after all!
