New Chek Jawa guides now undergo an "On the Job Training" (OJT) regime which introduces them to guiding philosophy and techniques and providdes an early exposure to the public and the system we employ there.
But they require help with understanding fauna, flora, habitats, marine ecology and conservation issues. Since most are novices to biology, we are planning to offer them a training workshop.
Just had a long chat with WYT, one of the CJ guides, about the new design some of us have proposed. The immense and diverse content is to be organised into smaller modules that will be easier to cope with. And offered as a series of single day, 3-hour, monthly workshops.
She will assemble a team from Toddycats we will meet in January. First announcement goes out to CJ OJT guides in late January and hopefully the first session will begin in February.
It's tough work preparing for all of this, but once we start, we will have fun. I wonder of the visitors have a clue how hard these guides train!
