William Tan raising funds for Healthcare Centres - cyclists wanted

Category : cycling

Eric Tan was the ride coordinator for William Tan's fund-raising wheelchair marathon. During the ride, Eric found himself coordinating 100 cyclists, half of whom were unregistered.

However he managed it very well and cyclists from WheelsAreTurning helped out as the advance party and witnessed yet another inspiring effort by William Tan, a truly exceptional individual.

We did not reliase how urgently the funds were needed until we heard that the Toa Payoh and Geylang healthcare centres are struggling to stay open.

Then we heard the shocking news that the fund-raising effort had only raised a paltry $5,000, a far cry from the targetted $300,000. Back to the drawing board.

Now Eric, who got involved the fund-raising strategy, has just informed us that he will require our help on 9th and 10th of April 2005 to accompany wheelchair marathoner Dr William Tan on a 24hrs 300 km ultramarathon around Singapore to raise public donations for the two centres.

Although the target is 300km in 24 hours, every cyclist can cycle 150km in 12hrs and pass the baton on to a partner. Teh call has been sent out to 300 cyclists and road marshalls to participate and collect donation pledges for every km they cycle.

Participating cyclists have to pre-register on the 29th of Jan 2005 2pm at the Toa Payoh Senior Citizens╣ Health Care Centre Ltd 2003 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh, Toa Payoh Polyclinic (Level 3), Singapore 319260. There will be briefing on road safety, logistics, fund raising and etc. Call or sms Eric at 9027-3700 Eric to confirm your participation on the 29th (briefing) and 9th/10th April (event).

So the fund raising process has been revised after some brain storming and the briefing of cyclists will help pre-empt lots of problems. I guess WheelsAreTurning will be there again to help out. We'd better go register now.
