I have read very little recently, and am all the worse for it. And I mean books. In attempting a comeback, I created a new category in this blog, called "literature".
The word, however, conjures up an image of thick-bound, gold-lettered English classics. My childhood reading was fueled by a silver-fish infested cupboard of English classics in the backyard. Without a television most years growing up, I returned home after school (we had real half day school sessions), and besides the cupboard, ventured to a nearby second hand bookshop (NIB) and the public libraries at Toa Payoh and the soon to be extinct Stamford Road.
I doubt I will resume reading English classics. Not just yet. So Wikipedia's explanation was reassuring.
