iShop at Orchard Cineleisure

Category : mac and the internet

I was at the iShop at Orchard Cineleisure yesterday by accident, and today to send my iBook in to Applecare. Softening the blow of the sorrowful parting with my iBook was a macaddict support team - macaddict Derek who had come to the museum to hand in a dead pitta drove me to Orchard Cinelesiure and macaddict Abby sent me home later; pretty nice of them, huh?

I met Z and Abby at the ground floor with stars in the eyes after an iShop visit and when I reached the 3rd floor where the store is located, I met two more pals from NUS Biological Sciences - they had just stumbled in and were gazing at the ancient macs on display including a very nostalgic Apple ][.

I later saw them moving amongst the iMacs, G5's powerbooks, iSights and iPods. Wonder if they caught a short clip of Royston Tan's, made with Garage Band and Final Cut Pro, which is being screened at the seminar area.

I heard from Raymond that they conducted an iMovie competition last week. Participants had to edit nine shaky minutes of the iShop into a 30-second advert in just 15 minutes after a short tutorial. Some 10-year old kid who used the Mac for the first time in his life, walked away with a 12.1" iBook.

This Saturday, similar prizes are up for grabs (iBook, 2GB iPod Nano) at an iPhoto contest - walkin signups at 11am.

Guess its going to be a popular stopover for cinema-goers. I, on the other hand, really just want to get my iBook back!

On 12th October 2005, Roland Lim of Business Times wrote:

"Luxury fashion retailer Club 21 Pte Ltd will ... open Asia's largest Apple store in Singapore next month. The 10,000 sq foot shop on the third floor of Orchard Cineleisure is slated to open on Nov 19 ... and ... will offer Apple's range of computers and its ubiquitous iPod portable music players alongside a wide array of related peripherals and accessories, including ... digital imaging products from Canon and audio products from Bose.

Beyond retail, the Club 21 ishop will also have five rooms which will be used for software training, and also a cafe. There will be an authorised service point for Apple product owners to send in their equipment for repair and maintenance.
