Reviews of the new iPhoto 6

Category : mac and the internet

iPhoto 6 is part of the new iLife '06 suite which includes iMovie HD, iDVD, Garage Band and iWeb.

The particularly good news to some is that iPhoto now includes support for up to 250,000 photos. See the quicktour. Cost: S$158, edu price: $117.60.

Some impressions and reviews:

"First Look: iPhoto 6." By Kelly Turner. Macworld, 16 Jan 2006. Read the readers comments too, e.g that of fribhey:

"The best new feature in iPhoto 6 is the fact that you can store your photos ANYWHERE without iphoto making copying the photos to your iphoto library folder when you import - there's a preference to turn that off.

What that means is that you can now keep your photos on an external drive. the only thing that will get copied to your iphoto library folder are thumbnails and all modified/edited photos are stored in that folder as well."

"iPhoto 6: First Impressions." By David Chartier. TUAW, 12 Jan 2006. (After 20 minutes of "poking at it".)

"Finally, finally, finally - the iPhoto Library folder (in ~/Pictures/) organizes your images the way an application like this should. Basically, under a new "Originals" folder are folders dated by year, and in those are folders named by album, with images arranged accordingly. Thanks Apple!"

I have to confess to using iView Media Pro myself from pre-iPhoto days, and its very powerful. Wonder how they compare these days.
