Early adopter

Category : mac and the internet

As one of the early adopters of the Intel Mac, MacGuru Yezdi of Applecentre Bukit Timah summoned me to join him and Gordon (also from NUS) for an interview for some tech programme on CNA. The interviewer, David, is also a mac user and with Ladybird there at the beginning, it was pretty much like a mac meetup!

Anyway, one of the questions was about worries about compatibility. It hadn't been a worry for me since all my shareware alerts over the past couple of months had been about downloading Universial Binary updates. I don't use Photoshop and my alternative, Graphic Converter very proudly has an Intel version! And the critically important AcidSearch will be UB in version 0.7; I am eagerly waiting!

Funny thing was, during the Yesterday meetup, I was dissuading Ivan from getting a mac. He has a office-provided blackberry and laptop for the moment. So he can afford to wait until until all the image/creative apps go native on the Intels before switching. By that time (say a year?) he'd be able to get a much faster MacBook Pro for the same price.

Certainly Ivan will use the mac well. Hopefully it means saving time and having fun while he does it. But he might have so much fun, it'll be impossible to disengage him from his mac and his family might miss him!
