Entourage X Address Book gone MIA again!

Category : mac and the internet

It just disappeared! Just like it did last month!

I am exported my contacts from gmail. But the matching has not gone well. Since I have to manually process the csv file gmail spat out for me, I decided to remove my antiquated [] symbols for affiliation and map that field to "Company". For biology alumni that must be a sigh of relief. Not everyone wants to have their year of graduation inadvertently revealed.

Some elements in this contact migrated from 1KHz machines in the late 80s' and it seems I am finally separating out first names from last names. I chose the path of least resistance and am up and running.

Update - database file is about 2.5GB. Maybe its that thing I heard about Entourage going wonky when the size of database file exceeds 2GB. Its why I carved out the earlier 2GB worth of mail up to 2005 and archived it as another user. Time for attachment deletions, database rebuilds and archiving of 2004-2005 emails as yet another user.

The archiving business is getting more frequent as attachment sizes are larger. I have more than a few attachments larger than 4MB including some image-embedded Word documents. That was really rare two years ago. Assuming my woes are due to the 2GB barrier, I hope MBU's next unveiling will cope with this.
