Category : mac and the internet

I am in an Apple classroom in a new building at ACS(I). Dropped of at Dover Road and walked in - the complex was potentially complicated but instructions were intuitive. Guess Macaddicts are influenced by the system they use!

I am prepping a Google Doc that the class can share. WIll start out with blogs and web 2.0 tools I use in nature/environment work, and then I'll demo some of my blogging tools and show them Lekowala's impressive migration to Wordpress!

Then I'll go into open source and web 2.0 tools (includes Firefox and GMail) and let them experiment with collaborative and group activity. We'll review the collective work via tags.

TextWrangler is not connecting to my server (doesn't work on some networks) and I can't get on to NUS VPN.

Oh well, will save to text and drop it in via Transmit Interarchy.

Update - The connection was too poor for any of the above, so I focused on GMail - (size, search, tag, chat, archive) and then (after getting them into Firefox) introduced Google Docs and Spreadsheets. The class collaborated with documents and spreadsheets, inserted photos (taken via PhotoBoth) and published the documents. Sharing involved a little of snipurl and they had created webpages!

Despite the slow connection, it worked. Certainly they have considerable respect for GMail now. And working in a class full of GMailers was fun!
