Shifting blogs

Category : mac and the internet

Since 2003, NUS Science servers have allowed me to proliferate collaborative blogs and numerous blogs have emerged on nature and heritage. Then a little rudimentary, a couple of improvements have since gladdened bloggers' hearts - online photo sites have improved drastically (especially with Flickr) and Blogger's new version has fixed uploading hiccups, previously a regular, frustrating, event.

However, in the meantime, NUS Science Servers appear to have become uncooperative - I have found index pages on some of my collaborative blogs blank; republishing efforts appear to have failed to upload archives completely.

As a start, I finally tried switching Cycling in Singapore - seamless integration! Wow! I checked the archives briefly and the blog seemed okay. Thankfully I seemed to have favoured absolute referencing for images, phew! I updated blog members Chu Wa, Paul, Chenmunn and Ling about it and put up a new post - nice and quick action!

I have no idea what to do with search engine referrals to old pages - let time take care of it? Republish the pages with the new link emblazoned in the template might be tough because of the Science Server.

This evening, leafmonkey was unable to post to Ubin Stories. Stumped yet agin by the server, I decided to shift this blog over to Blogspot!

Next I will check with Debby Ng about The Hantu Blog. That site has had its share of problems, but Debby has never complained. Also, all the recent sidebar edits seem to have worked - making ReefFriends logo fit and removing the Habitatnews 2004 Tsunami link.

The Biology Refugia has seen recent posts by Alvin and Cheng Puay, so that seems healthy too. And there are more...

I've written to sysadmin about this and if its still a mystery, I'll shift the problematic blogs over, as they encouter trouble. I will redirect their URLs of course (e.g. Ubin Stories is at but will use unmasked URLs so that permalinks are unmistakable to the uninitiated. This will mean a clearer about page but I could centralise that on Habitatnews and let all blogs point to it. After all, I do have an "About" category and it will bee a good wayt to introduce new readers to these pages!
