Text Wrangler for free and the Laszlo Linkbox

Category : mac and the internet

Judi Sohn alerted me more than a week ago that Bare Bones is giving away Text Wrangler (formerly US $49) for free, resucitating the role of the discontinued BBEdit Lite. It's a geek tool, really, but already I see its FTP capabilities combine the editing (TextEdit) and uploading (Interarchy) of text files to a server into just one application.

It certainly saved me lots of time when editing the opml file that feeds the Laszlo Linkbox that I am trying out. I kept fouling up the syntax (as usual) and had to upload the corrected file each time.

I should probably activate php on my mac and do this locally, but maybe later. Meanwhile the Laszlo Linkbox looks intriguing but I have to see how it performs (along with the zFeeder) on a 56k modem line.

Anyway with Text Wrangler, saving the file means, its uploaded to the server. A page refresh in Safari confirms the edit and its done! This will be of significant help to the blogs and news pages I maintain since each post usually needs a little tidying up before I leave it alone.

Ironically, the Bare Bones seems to be down right now, so hop over to Version Tracker for your fix. It obviously has a lot more functions that I hope to discover in the weeks ahead.
