Turns out, after sweating copiously (and five t-shirt changes later), soaking in the ambience and waters of the mangroves appears to have finally cured the six-nights of fever. The only maddening thing was watching the trash wash in, courtesy of the Straits of Johor. In the past four coastal cleanups at Kranji mangroves, we've cleared 13 tonnes of trash. I wonder how everyone else copes - there must be loads of people on regular sampling field trips faced with hiccups like flus, fevers, broken bones, etc. I remember tracking otters in Malaysia with a broken collar bone along rocky shores, mangrovs and beaches one stormy night. The sky featured lightning that flashed non-stop, providing prettty good lighting until dawn the next morning. It was a little surreal since I hopped on a plane shortly after, and was back in NUS conducting a lab practical that afternoon.
