Thumbs up for HHGTTG

Category : movies

Would have written a review but Daryl pretty much summed up how I felt. Except that I probably loved it even more. The audience too was in stitches, laughing out loud many times, even at the soundtrack.

My advantage in not having read the book recently was helpful. In fact picking it up just now revealed how much I'd forgotten. There is a little bit in there which has a government release announcing a new spaceship drive which renders all hyperspatial express routes unneccessary. Ouch.

The movie is a wonderful complement to the book. Some have expected to recreate their book-reading experience but that's silly. A movie can almost never recreate a book. While it was amusing to read how Arthur gets going in the morning, and even remember the sequence for that infamous game, I would have screamed if they tried to depict that in the movie or hollered "get amove on, wilya?"

Thankfully they made a movie instead.

And yes, don't rush out after the movie ends. Stay on a bit for one more gem and for the "So long and thanks for all the fish" ditty to turn into an earworm.

And Ladybug has thankfuly found the lyrics and can finally get past the first line!

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

The world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

(yeah)

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear?

(oh dear)

Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long

So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
