I Robot

Category : movies

It's usually watch the movie, then read the book. I, Robot is no diffferent. I'd been warned not to expect the intelligence of the futuristic social constructs of Asimov. But I really had to make up for missing Bicentennial Man. The trailer and reviews were not encouraging but Spiderman 2 was so bad, it made this movie an attractive option.

The product placement was more jarring than I would have imagined in the early part of the film. And the editing seems bad as there are apparent references to subplots that do not evolve or got snipped away.

I managed to suppress memories of the original stories and thus managed to enjoy this detective drama which flirted with Asimov's ideas. Well, I did ignore the logical questions that screamed in my head. The movie score was good, WIll Smith and Bridget Moynahan were enjoyable to watch and there was a hint of an idea.

I rated it a "7", alongside the likes of 15 Minutes (2001), Bad Boys (1995), Chicken Run (2000), Chocolat (2000), Dead Poets Society (1989), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Elizabeth (1998) and Evolution (2001). So its not too bad - I forgot about everything else when I watched this, and would even enjoy watching it again. Sonny's even on my iBook desktop for the moment, at least!
